ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

Reports To: Superintendent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education or Administration
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary endorsement (preferred).
- Possession of/or eligibility to meet and obtain the requirements for State of Michigan Administrative Certification as an Administrator
- Successful teaching experience
- Understanding of school budgets
- Proven track record of working with diverse and at-risk students
- Proven understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports
- Proven understanding of growth data and achievement data
- Proven understanding of Special Education Processes
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Evaluates the implementation of instructional programs to ensure successful student outcomes
- Maintains a positive working relationship with families and acts as a problem-solver when concerns arise
- Maintains relationships with families and other community organizations to ensure two-way communication which fosters family and community involvement
- Actively participates in the Michigan Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP)
- Develops an atmosphere of trust, respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school
- Adheres to all district policies and administrative guidelines
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees following the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment
- Collaborates with and engages staff in a Multi-Tiered System of Support
- Plans and administers aspects of the special education school program
- Participates in district-wide activities, in-services, and committees, as appropriate
- Implements policy and procedure changes
- Prepares the school budget, works with Finance Manager on budgeting/purchasing
- Establishes priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with allowable anticipated funds
- Works with Central Office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school
- Plans and administers all aspects of the elementary school program.
- Provides general supervision to students
- Assists District level staff in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel
- Maintains a safe, effective learning environment through the use of positive behavior supports and interventions
- Maintains records necessary for completing District and State reports, and for reporting pupil attendance and academic progress
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess an extensive knowledge of current educational issues and best practices including, but not limited to: reading strategies, inquiry-based math and science instruction, brain-based research and data analysis, data implementation, elementary school curriculum development, and Michigan Curriculum
- Knowledge of and experience with early literacy, effective teaching practices, and standards-based assessment
- Thorough knowledge of school policies and procedures
- Strong strategic visioning skills
- Ability to perform highly complex and technical tasks
- Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of school programs, policies, and operational needs
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Strong public speaking skills
- Willingness to write and apply for grants
- Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for students with varied abilities
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, policies, rules, and regulations as it relates to school administration
